You Must Be Stoking Comedy Night on Wednesday 4th May 2011 @ The Stoke Pub & Pizzeria, 103 Stoke Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 4JN.
Doors open 7:30pm and the show starts at 8pm.
The finest stand-ups hand-picked for Guildford comedygoers: This time…
Bob Mills is a true elder statesman of British stand-up comedy – the man who bridged the gap between the first wave of “alternative comedy” in the mid-eighties and the new laddism of the early ’90s.
Bob found was at the vanguard of what become known as the “new lad” movement along with his long-term friend and colleague Danny Baker and other torch-bearers like Keith Allen, Chris Evans, Jack Dee and Jonathan Ross. His love of football, comedy and modern culture soon saw him splitting his time between life as an acclaimed and in demand stand-up comedian and an equally popular TV host. Hosting the first of cult shows like Dial Midnight and In Bed With Medinner, all for LWT, and then more mainstream shows like Win, Lose or Draw for ITV, as well as radio shows on BBC London, GLR, Talksport and Radio 5Live. He is also co-host of The Christian O’Connell Solution on Sunday mornings.
BRIAN DAMAGE & KRYSSTAL:
Since 2000 Brian & Krysstal have entertained and delighted all kinds of audiences in comedy clubs, cabaret nights, festivals, corporate and private functions in locations far and wide, from Australia to Peckham. Brian is infamously grumpy and deadpan, while his assistant Krysstal is glamorous but ditzy. The combination is unique and very funny. Their timing is exquisite, their humour dry and sometimes bawdy. Their unconventional vaudeville-style act is punctuated by silly songs, the odd bit of Spanish dancing and LOADS of belly laughs.
Angie McEvoy has a sweet and laid back stage persona, fused with a dry and cutting wit. She regularly performs around the UK, including major venues such as The Comedy Store and Jongleurs. Angie launched her career at the Edinburgh Festival in 2000, when she was voted runner-up in the BBC New Comedy Awards. Angie is excellent at writing comedy ‘to order’ for television discussion shows, panel games and radio shows. She had written her own appearances on Richard & Judy (Ch4). She is a regular contributor to the Vanessa Feltz Show (BBC London) and has written topical material for The Jeremy Vine Show (BBC Radio 2) RI:SE (Ch4) and the LBC Weekend Breakfast Show. ‘Always enjoyable… Angie McEvoy deserves her own TV show…My favourite new comedian… by miles’ Time Out
PAUL KERENSA (MC):
Co-writer of the British Comedy Award winning Miranda, BBC1’s Not Going Out, and now touring his “dazzlingly funny” (The Spectator) solo show, Paul is a Guildford local who’s been running The Stoke’s comedy night for three years, hand-picking his favourite acts for his friends and neighbours to enjoy.
