You Must Be Stoking Comedy Night Guildford – Wednesday 7th May with Wes Zaharuk

You Must Be Stoking Comedy Night At The Stoke Guildford 2nd April 2014

You Must Be Stoking – the finest stand-ups, hand-picked for Guildford comedygoers @ The Stoke pub, 103 Stoke Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 4JN

Wednesday 7th May 2014

As the temperature finally heads upwards so do the laughs! We’ve got a great lineup for our May show, including…

Wes Zaharuk

Wes credits his comic roots to his parents, who made ‘not listening’ an Olympic event. As a child, his parents dressed him in wool pants that were incredibly itchy. Complain as he would, his words fell on deaf ears. When he developed a skin condition that looked like a large, all-dressed pizza, he was tested for allergies. It was found that he was allergic to wool. Through it all, Wes developed his desire to be heard – if only to reduce rash. Wes says “Show business sometimes lures people who didn’t get enough love early in life. I feel as a child I didn’t get enough unsupervised time with power tools but who has perfect parents?” Early in his career Zaharuk’s fast paced razor wit and tornado-like approach to comedy caught on quickly. Soon he became one of the most requested comedian at clubs, colleges, and major corporations through North America. He has performed around the world, including Cyprus, Germany, Israel and Australia.

“Stupidly entertaining”Chortle
“Simply amazing”Toronto Sun

Claire Parker

Claire has an amazing stage presence and her assured and comfortable style holds an audience firmly in her comedy grip. She is one of only a few comedians whose life is so bizarre and challenging for audiences that they are held memorised by her journey. One minute you’re laughing out loud the next you’re transfixed by what she’s going to tell you next. Her performances are a mix of acerbic, witty observations through to probably the most unusual impression of Jimmy Savile on the circuit.

“Brilliant…a mesmerising presence on stage”Broadway Baby

Philip Simon

As well as working as a freelance comedy writer, including writing sketches for BBC Radio 4 Xtra’s topical comedy show Newsjack, Philip graduated from the Stand Up Comedy course at The Comedy School in March 2011. Since then he has performed comedy throughout the UK and New York, Tel Aviv and Auckland. He has also recently been working on BBC’s Mock The Week.

“Very funny indeed”Cotswold Comedy Club

Javier Jarquin

After appearing on television and playing and headlining some of the biggest clubs in Australia and New Zealand Javier Jarquin moved to the UK in 2010 where he has established himself as a circuit regular and headline act around the country and in mainland Europe.

“Seriously talented”The Stage

Compere Paul Kerensa

Exiled Cornishman Paul Kerensa has become a regular at the UK’s biggest venues, and a popular and reliable headline act. He writes for various sitcoms, including BBC1 hits Miranda and Not Going Out, as well as sketch shows such as Dead Ringers, ITV’s CGI UK and BBC3’s The Wrong Door. He has also written for The News Quiz, The Now Show, and countless others.
