Yep, that’s right, we’re on the hunt for a Saturday Night DJ to provide entertainment for each and every Saturday night at The Stoke Pub & Pizzeria.

You may be thinking – “awesome, I can band out some tunes every saturday at The Stoke” – but wait! We aren’t just looking for any old DJ that can spin a few tunes we’re looking for a proper radio style DJ… someone with personality who can provide banter, conversation, competitions and general chit chat as well as the all important tunes.

We are NOT looking for a bedroom DJ who plays the latest Dubstep or House music we’re looking for a well rounded DJ with an expansive musical taste, someone who can provide the soundtrack to every Saturday night at The Stoke Pub & Pizzeria. Think, Scott Mills, Christian O’Conner, Chris Evans, Geoff Lloyd, Fern Cotton and the likes – a night of entertainment not a stonking rave up with a few friends!

Sounds like something you’d be interested in doing? Well all you have to do to apply for this position is to pop into the Pub and ask to speak to manager Ahmad. Provide him with a 30 minute sample CD (please do not send MP3s via email etc, they will be deleted) and an outline of what you would do for each Saturday session. The DJ would be expected to play from 8.30pm til Midnight and would also be expected to bring their own equipment.

Ahmad looks forward to receiving your CDs soon!

Help yourself to some art materials and create a word of art: Paint, draw or just rip up the Sunday Papers and glue them on a canvas – let your creativity free every Sunday with our Sunday Art Project.

It is completley free and all you need to do to join in is ask at the bar for the materials.

The idea is for you to experimetn & at the end, if you like what you have created, you can price it and the proceeds go to Charity – The Great Ormand Street Charity to be precise. But on the other hand, if you don’t like what you’ve created we will take it off your hands and add it to any others left behind for other people to buy, again with the proceeds going to Charity.

So don’t forget, it’s Free to join in, you get to be creative and it’s all in the name of a ‘Great’ cause!

Looking forward to seeing you works of art!

"Oooh! Hard Luck mate!" Find out why Hard Luck is the new game on everyone's lips at The Stoke Pub & Pizzeria

PLEASE NOTE: HARD LUCK IS SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

A new year and a new weekly Pool Tournament at The Stoke Pub & Pizzeria – but it’s a Pool Tournament with a Twist… it’s called Hard Luck for a reason!

The first thing you need to know is that Hard Luck starts on Sunday 8th January with a bumper 1st place prize of £200. We’ll be playing Hard Luck every Sunday thereafter but with a 1st place prize of £100.

The second thing you need to know is why it’s called Hard Luck… we’ll here’s why:

Each player can buy 1, 2 or 3 lives (up to 7.50pm)

Each life will be placed into a hat

Two names/lives will be drawn from the hat at 8pm to play the first Pool game

Then it’s winner stays on, with their next opponent drawn at random from the hat

If you are playing and your own name is called, you loose 1 life

The winner is the person that wins the last game

Get why it’s called Hard Luck now? If not let us explain… you could be on the table from the first match until the last match winning each and every game and then right on the last game someone who hasn’t played all night comes along and beats you! They win £200 and you go home with nothing – ouch, Hard Luck mate! It’s all down to luck, when your name is drawn, who you play against, how many times you play and eventually if you win or not!

We think the game is fantastic and we’re very excited to introduce it to our weekly events and we hope you are too.

Now then, just a final bit of information for you. Each life will cost you £1 (£3 total for the max. 3 lives) and the game of Pool is paid for by the new opponent (£1) – so the maximum you will spend in an evening will be £6 and the minimum would be £1 – not bad considering the prize is £200 initially followed by £100 each week thereafter.

So please come and join us for our first game of Hard Luck this Sunday evening, first game starts at 8pm and last chance to buy your lives is 7.50pm – no late entries will be accepted.

See you Sunday!

Stuart Goldsmith

Recently seen on ITV1′s Show Me The Funny, Stuart Goldsmith makes a welcome return to The Stoke, having performed at one of our first shows 4 years ago. Since then his stock has risen, as he’s proved himself a warm, charming and confident performer both here and abroad. Stuart’s infectious banter channels the effortless charisma and quick-fire timing honed over a youth misspent as a street performer.

‘Sparky goings-on and charm to spare, as Stuart Goldsmith marries pitch-perfect audience repartee with cleverly woven tales of the everyday.’ - The Independent

Sarah Hendrickx

Sarah Hendrickx started gigging as a stand-up in January 2010 and had a number of early competition successes, as well as consistent praise and encouragement from audiences and bookers alike. Her material is gag-based and high energy.

You Must Be Stoking Comedy Night on Wednesday 7th September 2011 @ The Stoke Pub & Pizzeria, 103 Stoke Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 4JN.

Doors open 7:30pm and the show starts at 8pm.

Tickets are £7 (+70p booking fee) from www.youmustbestoking.com/tickets, or £9 on the door.

Appearing will be:

The Raymond & Mr Timpkins Revue

“Joyous. Pretty irresistible” – CHORTLE

“Knockabout double-act with enough silliness to fill a pillow” – THE EVENING STANDARD

An incredible double-act mixing daftness, music, nonsense, searing satire, and funny hats…

Cutting their teeth compering and performing in Comedy and Variety nights at The Wedgewood Rooms in Southsea, the nineties wafted gently past until, eventually and not before time, London called. With the fledgling post-fix, “Revue”, added, they blasted the clubs with their Guitar and Stylophone stylings, wowing rooms with super slick prop manipulation, dazzling jaded eyes with sandal based choreography that remains inimitable.

Now, they tour the country, regularly headlining at Jongleurs clubs, even venturing as far afield as The Falklands and Oman, to provide spiritual uplift to the brave boys and girls of the armed forces.

Their latest foray is into radio comedy/drama. A 1930s murder mystery based in Brighton and a retellling of the Jack the Ripper tale have so far been forged in the red hot fires of their imaginations.

“A mad, anarchic triumph of stupidity over style. Not to be missed” – THE GUARDIAN
“Spectacularly funny” - TIME OUT

Helen Arney

Helen Arney is a musical comedian based in London, performing original and unusually funny songs on ukulele and piano.

**** “Charming, witty and warm, with great one-liners” (The List)
**** “Harnesses the spirit of Ben Folds and the Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon… delightful” – (Chortle)
“Rising star of 2010″ – (spoonfed.co.uk)

Helen is an Edinburgh Fringe favourite with her offbeat style and warm musical whimsy. She’s appeared at festivals such as Latitude, End Of The Road and Geek Pop, as well as Cheltenham Science Festival. Her current projects include a new show about a time travelling coffee shop, a collection of science-inspired songs called Geek Party and more musical collaborations with top UK comedians.

Rob Thomas

Likeable Welsh Londoner Rob Thomas is the one of the most prolific newcomers to the circuit – already known for his knack of mixing sharp one-liners with energetic physical humour. See him while we can still afford him.

Wayne The Weird

…aka Wayne Shakespeare, is a brilliant wizard with tricks and jokes alike. Prepare to be amazed, entertained, and enthralled.

“Outrageous comedian & magician” - The Southern Daily Echo

Compere Matt Green

Matt Green is a profilic rising star, regularly playing Jongleurs, Up The Creek, Banana Cabaret, The Comedy Cafe, The Frog and Bucket, XS Malarkeys, ED Comedy, Downstairs at the Kings Head, Buzz Comedy, The Comedy Network, Off the Kerb, Jesters, The Komedia, The Stand (Edinburgh & Glasgow) and many more. He’s performed with Arthur Smith, Richard Herring, Chris Addison, Nina Conti and Stephen Merchant, and is a familiar face on the big & small screen too, appearing in such films as Finding Neverland and Ali G In Da House, and on TV shows including Harry Hill’s TV Burp.

“Green is a stand-up audience’s dream; his off-the-cuff jokes are so good they could have been scripted, and his clever prepared material is delivered so nonchalantly it could have been improvised. I ain’t lyin’, Matt Green is da bomb.” – FIVE STARS – Three Weeks

Continuing our tradition of showcasing local artists we are proud to introduce the new 3 month exhibition by Katharine Gordon of Tiger Lily Studio (a rural retreat offering writing, ceramics and painting in Walliswood, nr Cranleigh).

Katharine is a multi disciplined artist working in a free, bold imaginative style. The exciting paintings in this exhibition are joyful, expressive and colourful.
